NORWEGIAN WOOD is the first Haruki Murakami that I read. Not very impressed, though the world seems to have gone gaga over it. I don’t know if I missed the point entirely. I gather Murakami’s writings are far too philosophical, packed with symbolism, but this one didn’t seem so. Maybe his other books are.
This one talks seriously about love (more sex actually) and depression. One may come out a bit sad at the end of it. I had to drag myself to reach the last page, so boring it turned out that I may not have the patience to take up another Murakami. What attracted me was the translation by Jay Rubin. Though I have little knowledge of Japanese, I felt the translation was great.
